We moved here for the small town feel 3 years ago, but with all the new cookie cutter subdivisions and the drive for GTA people to come here the sense of community is gone. So within the next 5 years we are probably going to sell our house before we have kids to move somewhere were we can raise them in a place that has that sense of community.

As a new resident to Listowel, I was surprised to find out that there is little information about the history of the town and its heritage. Buildings are obviously the most lasting physical parts of any community's heritage but unfortunately there is not much information or recognition of Listowel's architecture. The municipality could/should start a program that promotes Listowel's heritage by: . teaming up with regional, provincial and, if necessary, federal heritage organizations and find funding opportunities as well as non-financial resources available; . starting a local heritage registry of architectural and physical structures; . exploring and promoting other aspects of Listowel's physical heritage; e.g. farms, barns, farming equipment as well as natural heritage, e.g. trees; . promoting non-tangible heritage by recording and collecting the town's oral history; . ... Thanks.

Although I have read that it might be in the works, a regional public transit system cannot arrive soon enough. Such public transit system that would link Listowel and other neighbouring towns to the urban centres such as Kitchener-Waterloo and Guelph would be an immense investment in terms of social, economic and environmental development of the municipality and region.

Given that we are in the middle of farming region and perhaps the heart of it, I have found Listowel's streetscape less green than most of towns in the region. My suggestion is that the township (with help from residents) starts a program of tree planting along the two main arterial thoroughfares of Main Street and Wallace Avenue North. It would be a low-cost, low-maintenance option for beautifying streetscape in the town. Adding two trees to each property that doesn't have street-front trees could be done cost-effectively by negotiating with one of many tree farms in the region. The (heavily discounted) purchase and transportation could be done by the residents themselves who have to pick up and plant the trees according to the guidelines the township would provide (e.g. for the species and the location of the trees on property). In a few years, the town's main thoroughfares would be 'green tunnels' that would become a distinct characteristic of Listowel. Thanks for your consideration. Kourosh

Would really love to see a swimming facility where people with physical disabilities could have easier access to enter and exit swimming pool.
