Triton Engineering has completed a review of pedestrian crossovers (PXOs) within Listowel. The purpose of the review was to increase pedestrian mobility and safety and establish consistent designs for crosswalks and crossovers within the community. Twelve locations were studied based on observed traffic volumes, physical site conditions, proximity to other traffic control devices, and system connectivity and pedestrian preferences.

Recommended Locations

The review recommended that pedestrian crossovers be upgraded and/or added at the following locations:

  • Argyle Ave. N. at Main St. W.
  • Wellington Ave. N. at Main St. E.
  • Inkerman St. E. at Wallace Ave. N. (Note: more study needed due to proximity to traffic signals)
  • Elizabeth St. E. in front of Listowel Memorial Hospital
  • Nichol Ave. N. at Main St. E.
The following potential pedestrian crossover locations were also studied. Data collected showed that these locations are unwarranted at this time, but staff will continue to monitor for future need.
  • Main St. W. at Livingstone Ave.
  • Roundabout at Main St. W. and Mitchell Rd. S.
  • Main St. E. at Davidson Ave.
  • Davidson Ave. N. Trail Crossing (north of Davidson bridge)
  • Wallace Ave. N. at Campbell St.
  • Wallace Ave. N. in the area of Food Basics and McDonald's
