Organic Waste Options Survey

The Municipality of North Perth is exploring options to reduce organic waste (food and yard waste) through composting programs. Please review the options below and share your preferences. Your feedback will help shape future waste management services in the municipality.

1. Weekly Curbside Green Bin Collection

About the proposed option: The proposed option is for a new weekly collection service for food waste and yard waste for residents living in urban areas (such as towns or hamlets). This would involve using a 240 litre green bin provided by the municipality. With the introduction of this service, regular garbage pickup would move to every other week.

Participation: To keep the service cost-effective, all eligible households in urban areas will share the program costs to ensure the program remains affordable and sustainable.

2. Home-based Composting

About the proposed options:
The proposed options include either the use of an indoor electric countertop composter or backyard green cone digester. Home-based composting options are available to all households in North Perth.

  • Countertop Composter (compact electric unit): A fast, clean, indoor solution that transforms food waste into a soil amendment within hours.
  • Green Cone Digester (solar): An in-ground unit that uses solar heat to break down food waste over time, ideal for those with outdoor space.

Participation: Both home-based composting options include an up-front cost to each participating household. Participation is voluntary. The proposed home-based composting options may include a municipal subsidy.

Your feedback will be used to help determine the best path forward. Please participate in the survey and help provide vital insights.
