The Municipality of North Perth is working with consultants, SHIFT Landscape Architecture, to explore design options for a park on the Listowel Memorial Arena site. The arena is scheduled for demolition in 2021 and in its place, the Municipality hopes to develop a park for the community. To help shape the future park space, we are looking for your input on two preliminary design options presented on this page. There are feedback tools and a survey available below as well. Thank you for taking the time to engage with this project.

History of the Memorial Arena

The Memorial Arena was built in place of a former arena structure that collapsed on February 28, 1959, while a boys' hockey team was playing a scrimmage game. Eight lives were lost in the tragedy, including seven young players along with the referee/recreation director.

Once the arena is removed, the intent is for the site to become a park space that preserves the memory of the lives lost and affected by the collapse, while also continuing to be a space that can serve the community into the future.

Design Options

The video below, along with the links under the documents section on the right of this page, include information about the two design options for the Memorial Arena Park space. Once you have had a chance to review the information, please fill out the survey at the bottom of this page and leave any ideas or comments that you may have about the future of the site.
